Mervat Al-Jumhawee, based in Amman, Jordan, is a dedicated advocate for workers' rights, with a strong focus on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and migrant workers' welfare in Jordan. She is fluent in Arabic and with a working proficiency in English, Hindi, and Bengali.
With over two decades of experience in the Jordanian labour sector, focusing on advocacy and labour rights, she has made significant contributions to the welfare of garment and migrant workers, with a special focus on women’s rights and the prevention of gender-based violence in the workplace. Specific issues Mervat focuses on include gender-based violence, sexual harassment, reproductive health, and workplace discrimination.
Mervat’s work demonstrates a deep commitment to advancing gender justice in labour rights, with a strong grounding in the inner workings of the Jordanian labour market. She has specialised in gender equality, women’s empowerment and collective bargaining training, and is accredited by the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions.

Mervat has worked with organisations ranging from United Nations Agencies through to private sector advocacy groups, including the General Trade Union of Textile Workers (Jordan). She also coordinates Drosos' Community of Practice in Jordan, Bringing together the executive level of DROSOS partner organisations, stakeholders and like-minded organizations to share knowledge, expertise, and provide support to one another.
Education
Alongside her academic qualifications, Mervat has completed advanced training in Collective Bargaining Agreements, Gender Equality and Women's Empowermnet, and Training of Trainers.
