Doaa Shafey is a social researcher and consultant with extensive experience in ethnographic and mixed‑methods projects focused on family, gender, religion, and social change in Egypt. Her work spans academic institutions, international NGOs, and local organizations, where she has designed and implemented research, facilitated workshops, and translated findings into practical tools and policy-relevant outputs. She combines fieldwork, curriculum development, and facilitation, often working at the intersection of law, religion, and social development.

Her main speciality lies in qualitative and participatory research. As Country Lead Researcher for Musawah, she led an ethnographic project on ethical perspectives and practices in marriage among Egyptian Muslims, conducting in-depth interviews, focus groups, and thematic analysis, while also engaging in legislative review and stakeholder workshops. She has also specialized in workplace culture and positive peace, co-leading research on peaceful living in NGOs and social development organizations and developing training materials for a “peaceful lab” for civil society actors.

Doaa co-managed an organizational culture assessments, and has contributed to data analysis, documentation, and translation of findings for senior management, demonstrating strong capacity in organizational diagnostics and change-oriented reporting. She has also supported UN‑HABITAT–funded work with Benaa Foundation and Masarat Nesaiah on women’s access to land and inheritance in rural Upper Egypt, where she helped write grant proposals, designed and facilitated participatory workshops, and produced narrative reports and a short policy paper.

Clients

Her client and partner portfolio includes Musawah (global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family), UN‑HABITAT (through the Benaa–Masarat twinning initiative), and El‑Abd Foods (via Collective Routes), as well as Sanad Org in the peace-at-work initiative. Within AUC’s Law and Society Research Unit, she worked on projects funded or supported by the Embassy of Switzerland and Carnegie Corporation, engaging government, legal experts, and civil society around personal status law, family mediation, and social exclusion under Egypt’s universal health coverage scheme. Across these engagements, she has routinely interfaced with stakeholders from Al‑Azhar, NGOs, INGOs, policymakers, and practitioners, positioning her as a consultant comfortable navigating multi-actor, politically and socially sensitive environments.
