Social Protection

Background

Striking a balance between protection and prevention is key to improving quality of life for vulnerable communities in challenging environments. We work with NGOs across the MENA region to tackle these challenges through a participatory process.

Social protection programmes are complex and multifacted. We have seen examples of where these are done extremely well, and also examples where good intentions are stymied by poor execution, or a lack of contextual and situational awareness.

We work with UN Agencies, NGOs, and philanthropic organisations through all stages of intervention, from situational analysis, and project design, mid-term evaluation and re-design, through to monitoring, final evaluations, and end-stage learning. .

The Challenge

  • Delta Strategies supported the design and evaluation of critical social protection projects across the MENA region.

  • We have evaluated projects including a care-leavers independence programme in Egpyt, a $15million UN cash-assistance to work transition initiative, and a series of medical interventions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

  • Donors for these projects include the European Union, the Government of Luxembourg, Brot fur die Weld, and DfID.

The Outcome

We do this through a participatory approach to all our evaluations which places the lived experience of beneficiaries at its heart. We engage proactively and extensively with relevant government departments, project staff and management, and other key stakeholders.

Our focus is always forward-looking, seeking to identify lessons which can be learned, and offering recommendations which are innovative, tangible, and actionable.
